Item weights are typical, not exact. Weigh the packed bag before you leave if you're close.
How to get under the limit
- Start with a light bag. The bag counts. A soft backpack can weigh 2–3 kg less than a hard-shell spinner.
- Wear the heavy stuff. Boots, jacket and jeans on your body don't go on the scale.
- Watch the tech. Laptop, charger and power bank together are often 2 kg.
- Leave room for the way home. Souvenirs are the classic reason people pass on the way out and fail on the way back.
See every airline's limit on the carry-on weight limits page, and check size with the bag checker.
Questions people ask
Does the bag itself count toward the weight limit?
Yes. The limit is for the bag with everything in it. A hard-shell carry-on can use up half of a 7 kg allowance before you pack anything, which is why light soft bags are popular on 7 kg airlines.
Which airlines have a 7 kg carry-on limit?
Of the airlines we track: Qatar, Emirates, AirAsia, Singapore Airlines, Vietjet, Jetstar, Qantas, Air New Zealand. Check each airline's page for whether the personal item counts toward the same limit.
Do US airlines weigh carry-ons?
Most big US airlines don't publish a carry-on weight limit at all. They only ask that you can lift the bag into the bin yourself. Frontier and Breeze are exceptions in our data.
How accurate are the item weights?
They're typical weights to plan with, not exact. Clothes and shoes vary a lot by fabric and size. A cheap luggage scale is the only way to be sure before you leave.
